Privacy Policy

This Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use newswedishcinema.se (the “Site”), why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

1. Who is the controller

The Site is operated privately. For all privacy enquiries, please write to contact.newswedishcinema@gmail.com. We are the controller of the personal data described in this Policy.

2. What we collect

We collect only what is needed to run the Site: • Account data — email, name, hashed password. • Subscription data — tier, subscription status, Stripe customer and subscription IDs, billing status. Card details are handled directly by Stripe; we never see or store them. • Submission data — name, email, film title, description, video link, tagged collaborators and the record of your acceptance of the Film Submission Agreement (version + timestamp). • Waitlist data — email and which tier you asked to be notified about. • Watch and streak data — which featured films you watched, and your daily-watch streak counters. • Technical logs — IP address, user-agent, and request timestamps, kept short-term for security and debugging. • Analytics data — only if you consent to analytics cookies (see section 5).

3. Why we use it (legal bases)

• To provide the service you signed up for — legal basis: performance of a contract. • To process payments and prevent fraud — legal basis: performance of a contract and legitimate interests. • To send transactional emails (welcome, password reset, receipts, opening-night confirmation) — legal basis: performance of a contract or your consent. • To keep basic security and error logs — legal basis: legitimate interests. • To measure how the Site is used and improve it — only with your consent (see analytics section).

4. Who we share it with (processors)

We use a small number of trusted processors, each bound by data-processing terms: • Stripe (payment processing). • Resend (transactional email delivery). • PostHog (product analytics and session insights) — only if you accept the analytics cookie. • Our hosting provider (Emergent) for the servers and database. We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertisers.

5. Cookies and analytics

We use a minimum of cookies: • Strictly necessary — a locally stored token to keep you signed in, and a small marker of your cookie choice. These do not require consent. • Analytics (PostHog) — loaded only if you tap “Accept analytics” in the cookie banner. This helps us understand which films get watched and where the Site breaks. You can withdraw consent at any time from the account page or by clearing cookies. We do not use advertising cookies.

6. International transfers

Some of our processors (e.g. Stripe, PostHog) may process data outside the EU/EEA. When they do, they rely on adequacy decisions or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses to ensure equivalent protection.

7. How long we keep data

• Account data: as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, personal data is deleted or anonymised within 30 days, except where we must keep records for legal or tax reasons (e.g. Stripe receipts — 7 years under Swedish accounting law). • Submission data: kept as long as we keep your film available on the Site; on removal we retain the acceptance record of the Film Submission Agreement for as long as needed to defend against claims (typically 3–5 years). • Waitlist data: until the notification is sent, then archived for at most 6 months. • Technical logs: 30–90 days.

8. Your rights

Under GDPR you can ask us to: • Access the personal data we hold about you. • Correct data that is inaccurate. • Delete your data (“right to be forgotten”), subject to legal retention exceptions. • Restrict or object to certain processing. • Receive your data in a portable format. • Withdraw consent at any time. Contact us at contact.newswedishcinema@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you believe we have mishandled your data, you can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, imy.se).

9. Children

The Site is not intended for children under 13. If you learn that a child under 13 has provided personal data, please contact us and we will remove it.

10. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on the Site. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
